About Us

Welcome to Vermont Overland, where your passion for adventure travel meets the Green Mountain State’s love for enveloping you in lush beauty, crisp air, incredible food and drink and thrilling backcountry travel on a vast network of ancient roads rich with history and unparalleled scenery.

As a national champion and past professional cyclist, Peter Vollers loves the outdoors and quickly discovered that Vermont has an amazing network of rugged, unmaintained roads great for all sorts of recreation, especially cycling. After graduating from Cornell University and Vermont Law School and building up his law practice, Peter founded one of Vermont’s most successful junior cycling teams, the Killington Mountain School Cycling Team. When Peter isn’t planning adventure travel events and exploring the Vermont countryside with his family and their Jack Russell terriers, you’ll find him at his day-job as a real estate lawyer at Vollers Law in Woodstock, VT.

GRAVELFEST will be a four-day celebration of all things gravel cycling.  Learn about bikes, tires, gearing, accessories, navigational aids, gravel-specific training, camping tips, you name it.  We'll also have a major E-biking component as our gravel and unmaintained ancient roads provide the perfect terrain for E-bike touring.  Pretty simple.  Camp out, socialize, ride our awesome gravel courses all day, eat delicious farm/table food, drink locally-brewed craft beer and cider, socialize some more, sleep listening the gurgle of the Mill Brook, rinse and repeat, THEN RACE THE OVERLAND ON SUNDAY!!!  GRAVELFEST is a northeast gravel cycling bucket list item.  You won't want to miss it.

The Overland

The Overland is a 43-mile dirt road bicycle race featuring 5,700 feet of climbing, seven sectors of “Vermont pavé” (unmaintained ancient public roads), two well-fortified sag stops, a magnificently scenic route and an awesome party afterwards.  It’s the ultimate overland adventure ride.   Open dirt roads, amazing scenery and an epic course unlike any you’ve ever ridden before, all within a beautiful Vermont pastoral setting.

The purpose of this race is to promote the wonderful world of overland adventure riding and to benefit the Reading/West Windsor Food Shelf, an integral organization in the event’s host town of Reading.

VERMONT OVERLAND BIRDWATCHING SAFARI is the epitome of the exploration aspect of Vermont Overland. Participants in VOBS use their well-appointed vehicles to venture out into the Vermont backcountry to view their favorite indigenous bird species. Along the way, they'll make stops at local pottery shops, country stores, nano-breweries and historic sites. Many love to find remote cemeteries and imagine how Vermont looked when horse and buggy meandered the ancient roads. Some just come to take in the amazing fall foliage and enjoy the localvore food trucks back at camp. Whatever the reason, VOBS has become a cult overlanding bucket list gathering and we like that just fine.
